50 017 'Royal Oak' arrives at Loughborough

            The British Rail Class 50 is a class of 50 diesel locomotives designed to haul express passenger trains at 100mph, and entered service during 1967 and 1968, built by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry.

50017 entered service in April 1968 as D417 and was renumbered 50017 in 1973 before receiving the name "Royal Oak" in 1978. The loco enjoyed a 23 year career on BR before withdrawal in 1991.

The loco operated on the main line until late in 2018 and was purchased by GCR after becoming available for sale in early 2019, and subsequently arrived by road on 18th February 2019.

50017 is now an active member of the GCR diesel flee
