            A child stands behind one of the 18 wells constructed and supervised by UNICEF in the Khairkhana area of Kabul.

The United Nations Children’s Fund and its partners in Afghanistan have constructed more than 11,000 wells and 59 pipe schemes for water networks, and built or rehabilitated over 1,700 reservoirs that serve some 3.8 million people.

This is the fourth of seven photographs in a series created during a one-day tour of three United Nations projects in Afghanistan.
