EF5 Tornado Damage at Joplin, MO - a photo on Flickriver

            We finally drove down to Joplin to check out the damage from the devastating, tragic EF5 tornado which occured 3 weeks ago, almost to the hour, on the evening May 22, 2011.  It was the 5th deadliest tornado on record, and the deadliest tornado since the 1927 Tri-State Tornado, which killed in excess of 600 people.  The Joplin Tornado had taken 151 victims, either during the tornado, injuries sustained during, cleanup, and the fungal infections in the debris.

I've seen a lot of tornado damage, including a couple F3's and a high end F4, and an EF4, but this surpassed anything I've ever seen.  My girlfriend went to school here at Missouri Southern State University for 2 semesters, and I spent a lot of time around this town, and it is simply devastating to see these buildings and landmarks damaged, destroyed, and virtually removed from the earth.  The day after we left, 2 more victims died, bring the death toll to 153.  Simply incredible.

My heart goes out to all those affected, and I can honestly say that I prayed for these people.  I knew several folks directly affected by the tornado, and one person that was killed, so this disaster really hit home.
