This 6 inch female has been a pet for 24 years. Brown tarantulas tend to be more docile in nature than those exhibiting vibrant coloration. Some brown tarantulas may change color during development.

Known as Eurypelma californicum, is a popular brown tarantula. These tarantulas are considered the hardiest of their kind. Primarily brown in coloration, some specimens may also be black, tan or gold. These tarantulas are fairly large, measuring over five inches in size. Some may bear curly hair.
Slightly venomous fangs. However, the venom administered by their bite is not fatal to humans. These tarantulas feed on mice and other small vertebrates. As they may also prey upon nestling birds.
