Theme of the week: Close to home

I can't get much closer to home than with a self-portrait taken in my home office. I'm wary of selfies. Our culture of narcissism troubles me. However, portrait photography interests me, and I might as well practice on myself. 

I'm also interested in exploring our relationships to places. A self-portrait can show me where I am in a different dimension than how I experience it.

Here I am on a cold, snowy, blustery day, enjoying my office. It is a safe, quiet place. Besides writing, I love books, I love colour, and I like to spin yarn. I love music and I have good speakers for listening to my Classical collection while spinning. I knitted the shawl using commercial knitting yarn. Now I am handspinning yarn to make another one in the same pattern, which interplays colours nicely. I'm also learning for the first time how to use the camera's remote control, purchased more than two years ago. 

Despite recent losses, challenges, and the grieving process, I am happy in the moment of taking this photo. I might try to take more self-portraits for Project 365; and portraits, too.
