Pronghorns - a photo on Flickriver

Pronghorns

            Probably a couple of hundred Yellowstone pronghorns spend the winter in this area along the Old Yellowstone Trail. It's typical to see them hanging out with each other in small groups of three or four to 10 or so animals. 

Pronghorns migrate out of Yellowstone's higher elevations to the area just north of the park along the Yellowstone River that is somewhat protected by mountains to the west (Custer-Gallatins) and east (Absarokas), as evidenced by the predominance of snow-free range land. The road through that area is known as the Old Yellowstone Trail and is a reliable place to observe bison, elk, mule deer, and pronghorns in the winter.
