Last long shadows

            The sunset last night in the north unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park was not particularly spectacular, especially after all the work to hike up to this point on a trail that hasn't seen any traffic since the recent snowfalls.  The temperatures for the past couple of days finally climbed out of the Arctic range and the surface layer of snow began to melt and form a crust, causing me to question whether the climb up this particular trail was worth the effort.  It was peaceful, though, and even the ever-present wind was not to be found.  Coyotes yipped and carried on...  Aside from a small herd of bison, I saw not a single person in the park.  (1-24-2024)

This is NOT among my favorite images for a number of reasons...  I might reprocess this and return the crop to a normal horizon line, for even though the sky was relatively "boring" in my mind, i probably should have simply set the camera down on the snow crust instead of simply shooting very low.  This was shot about four or five inches above the snow but this lens has such a wide angle that I see now it could be shot from the surface instead.
