On the cusp of spring - a photo on Flickriver

            It's so very near at hand...  A mythical season called "spring".  The permafrost and final remnants of snow drifts are melting in North Dakota and daytime high temperatures made it into the 50s and 60s this week, resulting in a bug on my windshield last night when leaving the national park's north unit for the drive back to Williston.  I had made the drive south with the intention of shooting in the badlands, then working on a sunset with the interesting clouds but as golden hour descended, the clouds advanced, resulting in two frames at this location and a sunset that teased until blue hour, never quite lighting up the breaks in the clouds.  Win some, lose some, eh?   

Cedar Canyon is a view that has always fascinated me, though angles to hide the ascending road can be a challenge.  I have experimented with the generative AI a bit in Photoshop to remove or blend such things but I am still on the fence regarding the use of AI and tend to look at it as "retouching" if used in limited doses.  I prefer to simply change positions to hide or move distracting elements whenever possible.  For those that are curious, I have used it in two locations in this image and wonder if anyone can spot the edits?  The road remains in the image but could actually be easily removed...  (4-3-2024)
