Time Machine

Firstly, Happy New Year to you all. I hope all your wishes come true and you can find in your heart everything you need.

Secondly, the history behind this shot...
I have always been careful with my gear. Not paranoid, but I take care of my stuff, clean it, check every time I go out for spare batteries, lens solution, etc.
The last couple of times I had been out photographing I was traveling light, with pretty much my camera and two lenses. Not even tripod just so to scout some new grounds.
Between Christmas and New year, I took a short break with wife and toddler to a camping site in south Brazil called "Parque das Cascatas" or "Falls land". It is just an amazing place to photograph and everything around it can be quite exciting. So, get the gear and go... I wish...
To start with, the batteries from my remote device ran out. And guess what? I didn't take a backup. Ok, I though, I still can take some long exposures using the timer in the camera. And disaster happened... The 498RC2 manfrotto head just stopped working and got stuck... The picture above is actually the only shot I manage to take in time using a tripod.

So, what you do? Enjoy, obviously. I spent some amazing time with my 1.5 year old daughter, swan in the river and enjoyed all kind of animals (imagine frogs, lizards, peacocks, ducks, horses, dogs etc for a children) instead of getting worried with my camera. I love photography, but something was telling me to just let it go... Nothing was in my favor. Why get upset and ruin a family holiday? No, this is the only life I have and seeing the happiness of my baby was way more important than any photograph I could possibly had taken.

Anyway, I am not a night photographer and I don't intend to be one. But there are some moments that need to be registered. This shot was 30 seconds only, but I stayed there for about 45 minutes. Listening the sound of the well. Trying to figure out the stars formation and imaging how life moves on and on. Like a "Time Machine", the wheel moves, the earth moves, we move. The direction we take is up to us but we shouldn't ever forget that there is something much bigger out there and sometimes we should look into our soul to what makes us happy every day. That short break I have chosen my family.
