This time last year: 2b.CHAPELTOWN GCR Station building, Part Two, the Video - 7991->8030

* A 127Mby MP4, 2mins 50s, stills video of the inside and outside of the GCR building when it was being put up for auction in August, 2018. This is 29th August when the building was open on one of the 4 viewing days for prospective buyers to take a look at what they were getting; if you were a rail enthusiast, quite a lot it appeared.

initial bidding started at UKP250,000 but in the event was sold for UKP395,000! I went back after the site had been sold off and it was all locked up with not a sign of life anywhere, here are a couple of shots of the site taken on November 14th, 3 months after the auction had taken place-

These shots show the last ever remaining, substantial, signal gantry, just north of the station, on the left and the station building frontage on the right. The shots here, taken on the 27th January last year show the extent of the changes which had occured by that time, some new windows have been installed along the back elevation next to the platform, shrubbery has been cleared on the trackbed and an environmentally friendly, interlaced branches, boundary has been erected off to the far left. Work is proceeding on the chimney stacks and along the platform of the south-bound line from Westwood Station in the distance; that has long gone and there is little remaining in the burgeoning undergrowth. Work didn't appear to start on the building for some time, well into the following year, 2019 and, and I haven't been back since the beginning of 2020, when the pictures here were taken. At that stage there was scaffolding all over the structure on the platform side, see left picture, a new satellite dish and CCTV had been installed and scaffolding had been erected to deal with the roof. More scaffolding was present at the front of the property along with a rather impressive, manoeuvrable CCTV camera on the left front corner of the building. I now feel it would be worth taking a jaunt up there and if it wasn't for the dismal weather today, 28th January, I would go and take another look, tomorrow maybe.. In addition, I now recall there are 40 shots which were taken of the inside of the building during my 'inspection visit with a view to purchase'! on the 29th August, 2018
As mentioned yesterday, I did indeed return today after the periodic 'Click-and-Collect' from Sainsbury this morning, I will post the pictures tomorrow, but I have to say, not very much has happened in the ensuing year, since the pictures above were taken...
