Volunteer at Fire Island Lightlight

I was exploring the lighthouse on Fire Island when I met Betty. She greeted me with a smile as she entered the Fresnel Lens building for her volunteer job. I told her that she had an interesting face and that I would like to photograph her for a photo portrait project.


After learning what I was to do with the photo, she readily agreed to pose for me. As we chatted, I learned we had quite a bit in common, she too is a retired educator. Betty taught elementary school in Huntington, NY while I taught in Elizabeth, NJ. Additionally, she has a condo in Punta Gorda, Florida, a short drive from my home in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.


Her volunteering does not stop as docent in the Fresnel Building, Betty donates quite a bit more of her time on the Board of Directors of the Fire Island Lighthouse.
