Crossing the Mega bridge in a cab - a photo on Flickriver

            The city of Bangkok is growing at a phenomenal rate and is currently home to an estimated 15 million people and almost 25 million registered vehicles. As a result, the city’s roads are in a state of crisis, with log-jammed traffic becoming an almost permanent feature and travelling speed down to a crawl during peak times. 
The new Bangkok Mega Bridge will bring a massive improvement to the current traffic situation in the city. The “Mega Bridge” is part of a new road network – the 13km Industrial Ring Road. The Mega Bridge, a cable-stay bridge, stretches across a meander in the Chao Phraya river so actually comprises two bridges of 702m and 582m in length, each crossing a north-south stretch of water. In the middle is a suspended intersection. Each bridge is 51m high to allow tall shipping to pass under. The bridge’s towers have been built on soft, wet land which has led to some complex engineering challenges.  

Returning to the capital Bangkok. From our lonely beach on Koh Kood to a Metropole with more than 15 million people. Such a big contrast. After a 6 hour bus ride we took the taxi home from the bus terminal. This photo was taken from the taxi window. De stad Bangkok groeit in razend tempo toe en is momenteel een huis naar schatting 15 miljoen mensen en bijna 25 miljoen geregistreerde voertuigen. Als gevolg daarvan verkeren de wegen in een staat van crisis, vastlopend verkeer die zich een bijna permanent kenmerk tijdens de spitsuren. De nieuwe Bangkok Mega Bridge brengt een enorme verbetering ten opzichte van de vroeger situatie in de stad. De "Mega Bridge" is onderdeel van een nieuw wegennet - de 13km Industrial Ring Road. De Mega Bridge strekt zich uit over een meander in de Chao Phraya rivier en bestaat uit twee bruggen van 702m en 582m lang. Iedere brug is 51m hoog zodat de scheepvaart er zonder problemen onderdoor kan varen.
