"Chinese Great Wall" - Madeira - a photo on Flickriver

            Madeira is a dream island for hiking - green, mild climate and beautiful. There are essentially two types of hikes that can be done here. Most hiking trails lead along the so-called levadas - water channels that supply the whole island with water coming from the mountains - I will post pictures of that. The second type of hiking trails can be found in the mountains or on the deep cliffs with well-designed steep paths that contain a lot of stairs due to the incline. I haven't been up and down as many steps in my life as in Madeira, even though I always try to avoid elevators in buildings :-)
Here you can see parts of our way from Achada-do-Teixeira to the highest mountain of Madeira - the Pico-Ruivo (1862 m). From there we took one of the most beautiful but really strenous hike to Encumeada - the so-called roof of Madeira. But I will report on that separately. The paths ran through the mountains and from a distance looked like the course of the Great Wall of China... well, a bit :-)

By the way - I am missing the people tab - I know that this was announced but do you have a practical way to comment photos from a PC - not from cellphone?

Madeira ist eine Trauminsel zum Wandern - grün, mild vom Klima und wunderschön. Es gibt im Wesentlichen zwei Arten von Wanderungen, die man hier machen kann. Die meisten Wanderwege führen entlang der sogenannten Levadas - Wasserkanälen, die aus den Bergen kommend die ganze Insel mit Wasser versorgen - dazu werde ich noch Bilder posten. Die zweite Art von Wanderwegen findet man im Gebirge oder an den tiefen Steilküsten mit gut angelegten steilen Wegen, die aufgrund der Steigung sehr viele Treppen beinhalten. Ich bin in meinem Leben noch nicht so viele Stufen rauf und runter wie auf Madeira und dass, obwohl ich Aufzüge in Gebäuden immer versuche zu vermeiden :-)

Hier seht ihr einen Ausschnitt unseres Weges von Achada-do-Teixeira zum höchsten Berg Madeiras – dem Pico-Ruivo (1862 m). Von dort aus machten wir eine der schönsten, aber auch wirklich anstrengenden Wanderungen nach Encumeada.

Übrigens – mir fehlt die Registerkarte „Personen“ – ich weiß, dass dies angekündigt wurde, aber habt ihr eine praktische Alternative, Fotos von einem PC aus zu kommentieren – nicht von einem Mobiltelefon aus?
