"This lichen is a survivor. In New York City it is the only one to persist in central Brooklyn (on concrete fences in Prospect Park). A major factor enabling it to tolerate urban environments is its ability to inhabit rock rich in calcium, which buffers the effects of acid rain and sulphur dioxide pollution, but the lichen must have several other survival mechanisms." - Brodo 2001 "Lichens of North America"
