1996-97 Porsche GT1 Engine outline sketch, 4 copies, 1600 x 1200.

            Updated 8/5/20: 1 pixel wide lines had swelled when I moved images , all 4 were distorted, so I started over with the parameterized version and removed all the color

Here's 4 sketch outlines of the 1996-1997 Porsche GT1 "long block", to use when recording the configuration of fuel, air, cooling, ignition, monitoring and oil system of any example. Its grey on white, so your own pencil, colored pencil, ink, highlighter, etc show easily.

Note this drawing omits the alternator, water pump, power steering pump, serpentine belt, engine oil scavenge pumps driven by the exhaust cams, coolant pipes not directly attached to the top of the "block", oil pipes external to the "block" and transmission. There is a truncated oil-line from the top of the crank-case headed for the oil tank. The oil and coolant header tanks and power-steering fluid reservoir are also not shown. The heat shields outside the cam boxes, protecting the spark plugs, their individual coils and primary wires, are not shown.

The top pair of outlines have the darkened surface finish on the cam box covers, the chain covers at the front of the heads, and the three flexible hoses covering joints in the cooling system's metal pipes. The oil line from engine to tank is also darkened.

This was a completely water cooled, flat-six 3.2 liter twin-turbo engine. Dual overhead cams on each bank of 3 cylinders operated 4 valves per cylinder. With ACO intake restrictors installed on the turbo compressor, it produced 600 hp. The street version made 540 hp with catalytic converters and mufflers, and an intake system similar to Turbo 993s

The external oil tank was 250-300mm (10-12 inches) in diameter and twice as tall as an waste-paper bin for an office desk. For the factory set-up, engine oil and transmission oil were pumped through oil-to-water heat exchangers, so only one radiator supply and return connection were required. Private teams often added a local radiator for transmission oil, fed from one of the rear brake cooling ducts.
