The Old High Road - a photo on Flickriver

The Old High Road

            Long before U.S. Highway 550 bisected the Hermosa Valley to parallel the Rio Grande trackage, it originally hugged the west wall of the valley.  Far above the river, only the railroad broke the farms from the river.  Today, this busy throughfare carts traffic to and from Purgatory Ski Area and the play areas of the San Juan Mountains.  We're set up on the old highway, now La Plata County Road 203, one of my Grandmother's favorite drives.  

For the most part, I was able to get most of the modern vehicles out of the shot, though Photoshop saved the day by removing one at the far end.
