East meets West - a photo on Flickriver

East meets West

            Apache (left, 13,441', 4097 m) and Shoshoni Peaks (right, 12,967', 3952 m) frame a cirque forming the Continental Divide in the Front Range of the southern Rocky Mountains, as seen from Niwot Ridge.  Upslope easterly air (mist in the valley) is meeting overriding westerly air (dark clouds above the divide), feeding thunderstorm development.  Many of the snowfields are permanent, but don't meet the requirements to be classified as glaciers.  The largest snow patch here is the Isabelle Glacier, and there are two glaciers (Arapaho and Arikaree) in the drainage to the south of this.
