Happy Solstice! - a photo on Flickriver

Happy Solstice!

            Today Earth turns a corner on its journey around the sun, and the days will start getting longer.

Here the sun lights up clouds above the horizon on the shortest day of the year for the northern horizon.  I was surprised to see the glow a full 30 minutes before I took this, and would have preferred a little less brightness in the clouds, but arrived too late for that.  The surface of Teller Lake is mostly frozen, but off to the right you can see some open water with ducks and Canada Geese milling about.
