grey door | Howick Hall | Northumbria

A doorway at Howick Hall, the one-time home of Charles, 2nd Earl Grey. Some will know that a tea brand was named after him, but of more significance, as British Prime Minister from 1830 to 1834, his Government was responsible for passing the Great Reform Bill of 1832. His other reforms included restrictions on child labour and, most importantly, the abolition of slavery in the British Empire in 1833. All in all, Charles, 2nd Earl Grey was one of our more effective Prime Ministers; there aren't many like him these days.
