Shame on you Elisa (and Telenor too)!

            One page from the 20-page phone bill I got from my (now ex-) mobile phone operator, Elisa. I was visiting friends in Sweden, and my phone was roaming in Telenor's network. The phone's email application (Mail for Exchange) polled mails every 15 minutes, downloading on average only about 6kB of data. The total traffic over the weekend was less than a megabyte, but it ended costing me over 200 euros (300 USD), as they charged 1.125 euros per connection. 108 euros per day for email access is pretty steep in my opinion...

Until fixed-rate or decently-priced data connections are available globally, any mobile services that need to make use of data traffic just cannot catch on. Operators: if you want me to change my habits and start using an application or a service on a daily basis (say, reading my emails on my N95), this has to be a sensible proposition even -- and especially -- when I am traveling.
