Travel With Hunny's (short-lived) new route to Stratford

Travel With Hunny is a small independent operator based in Waltham Abbey, Essex, just north of London. Originally concentrating on private hires, in recent years the company has developed a small network of commercial and tendered routes around its home base.

Travel With Hunny's new route E20 between Harlow and Stratford began on Monday 1st October. The E20 runs from Harlow via Bumbles Green, Waltham Abbey, Loughton and the Debden Estate, before running non stop from Debden Station via the M11 and A12 to Stratford. Buses run about every 90 minutes Monday-Saturday; with a running time of 1h25 two buses are just sufficient to maintain the service. On Sundays, four return journeys are operated using one bus. Two ex-Metroline Plaxton President-bodied Dennis Tridents have been acquired for the service and one of these, T138 CLO, is seen loading in Great Eastern Road, Stratford with the 14.50 departure to Harlow on the first day of operation.

The E20 route number is inspired by the E20 postcode. Until 2011 this had been a fictional postcode, originally created by the producers of the BBC soap opera 'EastEnders'. However in 2011 the Royal Mail allocated the postcode to the redevelopment area north of Stratford - despite E19 also being available. The E20 area encompasses the Olympic Park - and also the huge Westfield Shopping Centre; shoppers presumably being the primary target market of the service. In spite of this, the stop in Stratford, on Great Eastern Road*, is firmly within the established E15 postcode! Prospective shoppers will need to cross the huge footbridge across the railway line to reach retail heaven.

* The official stop in Great Eastern Road is stop 'N', also the northbound stop for routes 158/241/308 - this stop has an E-pate for the E20, although no timetable. However in practice the service appears to be using stop 'M', which is the stop for Rail Replacement bus services. Certainly the intending passengers had been waiting here, which suggests they were dropped here earlier in the day.

UPDATE: The E20 proved to be short-lived, being withdrawn after Saturday 17th November. Staffing and vehicle problems were cited by TWH as the reasons for its withdrawal.
