SR 167 Completion Project from above

            This new aerial photo from March 2024, shows the immense progress on the SR 167 completion project between I-5 and stretching west toward the Port of Tacoma. 

Visible in the center of the photo is the Wapato Way roundabout and the Wapato Way East bridge over I-5. Immediately to the right of the roundabout is a large dirt area where there are two black walls that look somewhat like black slashes in the photo. Those are walls we've built and behind them are massive mounds of dirt that we've built up to support the SR 167 expressway. Eventually, there will be bridges between those locations. There will be a very long bridge that spans I-5 and another over SR 99 near the roundabout.

On the left side of the photograph, the alignment of the expressway is clearly visible. The orange line is actually high visibility fencing and it divides the highway portion from the wetland area that we're restoring. 

The SR 167 Completion project, which is part of the Puget Sound Gateway Program, builds the new SR 167 expressway in stages. The first 2-mile section adds a connection between I-5 and SR 509. Later stages will add the connection between SR 167’s current end in Puyallup and I-5.
