Looking Down Into Ribeira do Monhino (Mill Creek)

Small waterfalls along the course of Ribeira do Monhino on the northwest corner of the Island of Flores in the Azores. This view is looking down from the road. There is a stone wall in the foreground.

The stream located in the parish of Ponta Delgada (Flores) originates on Morro Alto at an altitude of around 900 meters in an area of high rainfall. In addition to the runoff, it is fed by two springs, one in Pico da Burrinha and the other, the highest flowing one on Morro Alto, which is the highest point on the island of Flores. Though the flow was low on this day, during stormy periods because of its large drainage basin, Ribeira do Moinho can carry a lot of water. It has one of the highest average flow rates of all the streams on Flores.The stream flows into the Atlantic Ocean near a place called Terra da Costa, between Ilhéu Francisco (east) and Ponta do Albarnaz (west).
