Helical Symmetry

As a change of pace, this is an indoor shot, also on Rügen, Germany's largest island, located in the Baltic Sea.

Shown here is the tower of the Hunting Castle Granitz. The tower is 38 m (~120 ft) high, and 154 iron steps bring you up. The castle was built on the highest hill on Rügen to begin with, so the tower puts you 145 m (~450 ft) above sea level, and you can overlook a very large part of the island. The thing in the center part is an eagle with a caught fish, being perhaps 30 m (~90 ft) above your head.

Taking this shot, again, the Tokina 11-16mm lens was chosen at 11mm. At this wide angle, the spiral is pronounced much more effectively than with conventional lenses, where you would only get the central part in the picture, where the changes in the distance between the spiral arms are no longer that pronounced when looking from down below. Enhancing that is the different lighting coming in, at the lowest part from the base building, more yellowish, getting brighter and more whitish going to the top. Without a wide angle, you would not be able to see that.
