Leica_LZOS_50-Q1307g - a photo on Flickriver

I took the old Leica III(a) for a walk yesterday and again today. Today I replaced the Elmar with an Industar 50,

This Industar (ИНДУСТАР, 50/3.5.) was manufactured in 1969 and is brand new old stock. The thin assembly lube is still on the outside, (you can see where I smudged it on the front of the lens flange.) It has no dust, no marks of any kind on the glass, and not a scratch or pit anywhere - including the colapsable barrel.

This is one of the lenses made by the LZOS glass works, (Лыткаринский завод оптического стекла - Lytkarino Optical Glass Factory - today.) It was made during a time when the KMZ plant was too busy cranking out Zorki bodies to bother themselves with making lenses.

This lens formula persisted through a myrid of iterations and various lens mounts. It has a respectable reputation in most of it's occcurances. There is some discussion that the various glass makers' glass may affect image quality to some degree. Couldn't proove it by me. The LZOS glass has always been very good to me, especially in my Jupiter 12 lenses.

Save for being brand new, this is a fairly common and available lens, (currently selling for $30 to $50.) My source looked around for about 6 months and finally found this one. I was pleased to pay $80 delivered. We'll see how the images compare to the freshly cleaned Elmar images.
