Bodhi tree and Dambulla Rock - a photo on Flickriver

            Bodhi trees symbolise Buddhism and are planted in Buddhist temples all over Sri Lanka. 

Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple is a living Buddhist complex since 1st century BC. Cave temples were carved by monks at the base of Dambulla Rock as seen in the photo, and underwent expansion, modification, and restoration over the two millennia. Existing caves are the result of large-scale renovation patronised by Kandyan kings in 18th century. 
White arched colonnade is an addition in 1938. 
Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple is on the list of World Heritage. 

Buddhist organisation that manages the cave temple recently built an oddly-designed Golden Temple nearby. 

Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple and Sigiriya Rock are located in the same Dambulla municipality.
