The Mighty Clouds of Joy D7C_1750 - a photo on Flickriver

We're not religious in any way, but when a legendary gospel group like The Mighty Clouds of Joy performs in a small Italian Abbey... you get that Walking in Memphis experience :

- 'Are you a Christian?'
- 'Man... I am tonight!'

The abbey was small, and we were sitting in about the tenth row, but the absence of a stage made it hard to see much, let alone take photographs... I managed to get a few well exposed shots, and just when I was about to scoot to the front of the hall for a couple of clear shots like these, the power overload caused a complete blackout, and the Abbey's electrician had to choose between the PA system or the lights. So the PA system was reactivated and the Abbey's mercury discharge hall lights were switched on instead of the stage lights. Unfortunately, the strong lighting on the beautiful frescoes behind resulted being able to hear the Mighty Clouds of Joy but seeing only a prefectly silhouetted spectacle.

The Nikon D700's exceptional sensitivity saved the day, and by using spot metering I still managed to get some reasonable shots like these against all odds...
