            Bogotá is a highly diverse city with massive wage and living standard inequality. Over-simplistically stated, the north of the city being wealthy and the south being very poor. Much of the people who live there were displaced in the decades of conflict in the country. 

The neighborhood of Chapinero Alto we live is a rapidly gentrifying one, we're told. In fact, ten years ago it was considred too dangerous for ex-pats (i.e. imigrant workers like ourselves) to live this far south in the city. Now, it's considered very cool and is firmly middle-class. It still has its very poor corners though.
