The Merkava Mk 4M is the latest generation of the Israeli Merkava tank series, preceded by Mk 1, Mk 2, Mk 3 and Mk3 Baz. The Merkava is designed and manufactured in Israel by the Ministry of Defense, the IDF and Israeli defense industries. The Merkava Mk 4M is armed with an IMI 120 mm smoothbore gun, a remote-controlled  M2 Browning 0.5 cal heavy machine gun, a coaxial FN MAG machine gun, a commander FN MAG 7.62x51 mm machine gun and an internal 60 mm mortar. The tank is shield with state-of-the-art armor, including the TROPHY active protection system - called "Windbreaker" in Hebrew ("Meyil Ruach"). The tank is powered by a strong 1500 HP (1,120 kW) diesel engine with enhanced transmission and hard-duty tracks system. In addition the tank is equipped with state-of-the-art C4ISTAR systems and digitial battle management system which integrates with the IDF's Tzayad (Digital Ground Army) network.
