The Fox and Hounds, Bloomfield Hills

Not so long ago, while cruising down Woodward on my way to my college classes after a long day of work (usually devouring something horrible for me, because I'd be in class from 6PM 'til 10PM), I would drive by the Fox & Hounds. This was three or four nights a week. I never did get to dine there, but her reputation was big, and I kind of thought driving by such a fabled place so often was pretty neat.

Alas, the legendary restaurant has since closed and even been razed—but was replaced by a place called "Bill's", which is very well-reviewed, winning over even old Fox & Hounds patrons!

The Fox & Hounds opened as an inn with a restaurant, small shops, ballroom, and even apartments in 1927, and was a Detroit metro-area favourite for many years. The exterior really did look like an old English inn, and according to Ford's is an authentic reproduction of one. The original menu featured "such British favorites as roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and grilled English mutton chops". The recipe offered is for beefsteak & kidney pie.

Even late into the life of the Fox & Hounds, patrons would squeeze onto the tiny dance floor. The restaurant closed and razed in 2007, after eighty years in business.
