Lesser Fiery Copper - a photo on Flickriver

            This butterfly is Lycaena thersamon (Esper, 1784). I captured it a few days ago in Cyprus, just before sunset resting on its hostplant, Polygonum equisetiforme. I usually shoot butterflies from the side with their wings closed. Here I make an exception as I want to show where its common name comes from, i.e., the lesser fiery copper.

For those interested in the technical details, this is a single RAW shot taken with Nikon D750 and the excellent Laowa (Venus) 60mm f/2.8 Ultra-Macro 2:1 lens, 1/3s, f/8, ISO 100.
