            There’s no yellow brick road that will lead me to Oz
There’s no place called Mayberry and there never was 
All the dreams of of my childhood are empty and cold 
Banished by reality now that I’m grown old 


Dreams are like snowflakes so pretty to see
But the longer you watch them the faster they flee
And you’ll never own them ‘cause they’re not really yours to begin with 
Dreams are like sunsets that thrill you with light 
But sunsets invariably lead straight to night 
And you’ll never own them ‘cause they’re not really yours to begin with 


All the failed promises that fell at your feet 
All the great expectations that I’d never meet 
You never complained but the pain that I saw
In those once smiling eyes crushed my heart in the fall
