View from the Zeedijk - Uitzicht vanaf de Zeedijk, Elshout

View over one of sixteen small and larger Elshoutse Wielen (small lakes) near the Dutch village of Elshout, municipality of Heusden, North Brabant. A farm is visible in the background. In the foreground, lush flowering wild plants and diverse grasses grow. The photo was taken in the spring; the morning mist has not completely disappeared. The dike was built after the great flood in the year 1421. The Wielen are the remnants of later dike breaches.

Doorkijkje over één van zestien kleine en grotere Elshoutse Wielen (plassen) bij het dorp Elshout, gemeente Heusden, Noord-Brabant. Op de achtergrond is een boerderij zichtbaar. Op de voorgrond groeien weelderig bloeiende wilde planten en uiteenlopende grassen. De foto is gemaakt in het voorjaar; de ochtendmist is nog niet helemaal verdwenen. De dijk werd gebouwd na de grote overstroming in het jaar 1421. De wielen zijn het overblijfsel van latere dijkdoorbraken.
