Zaanse Schans, Het Jonge Schaap (The Young Sheep)

A short distance north of Amsterdam in the city of Zaanstad, in the Zaanse Schans neighborhood, is one of the most visited attractions in the Netherlands, and for good reason: here you can find the most famous collection of historic industrial windmills in one location, which for centuries have used wind-power to pump water out of reclaimed land, and to make all kinds of products. Dating from 1574 onwards, seven fully operational windmills produce dyed clothing, paint, paper, ground spices, peanut oil, and in this photo here at the Young Sheep, is a sawmill. And just as wonderful, Zaanse Schans itself is a traditional Dutch village with authentic historic houses and seven working museums which highlight trades of the past. This was one of my favorite places to visit in the Netherlands.

But here at the Het Jonge Schaap, a worker doesn't have time for tourists. It's early in the morning, and he has much work to do...
