Steele's Mill on the Lyvennet. - a photo on Flickriver

            A mill has existed on or near this site since the tenth century. Records go back to the fourteenth century. A nearby hill has the name Milbers, the old Norse for millers hill. The present Georgian building was built in the nineteenth century, 1811, to meet the demand for grain during the Napoleonic wars. A great deal of land in the Eden Valley was turned to arable usage to meet the demand. It last ground grain in the nineteen twenties and ended production as a saw mill after the Second World War. 
Today it is a grade 2 listed building converted for residential occupation.
