El templo de Bayon en Angkor Thom, en las cercanías de la ciudad camboyana de Siem Reap, es un monumento único en el mundo, no solamente por representar un período de transición entre el Hinduismo y el Budismo en ese país, ni por los ricos bajorrelieves que ilustran escenas de la mitología y la vida diaria de la civilización khmer (o jemer), sino fundamentalmente por la extraordinaria, enigmática y monumental presencia de varias torres en forma de caras que pueblan este importante edificio, patrimonio de la humanidad por UNESCO.
