Stone Bridge over Bull Run - a photo on Flickriver

            Stone Bridge crosses Bull Run at the eastern entrance of the Manassas National Battlefield Park in Prince William County, Virginia. 

The original bridge, built in 1825, was the location of the first skirmish in the First Battle of Manassas (July 21, 1861).

In March, 1862, the Confederates blews up the original Stone Bridge while evacuating their winter camps in Centreville and Manassas in anticipation of fighting closer to Richmond.

The Union Army re-occupied the Manassas area and engineers eventually constructed a temporary wooden span across Bull Run. After suffering another costly retreat in the Second Battle of Manassas (August 28-30, 1862), the Union rear guard destroyed the wooden span.

By 1884, the Stone Bridge was fully rebuilt, similar to the original. The National park Service acquired the Stone Bridge in 1959.
