            Old Chart Room overlooking the Murray River, within the Goolwa Wharf Precinct.
The building was the former Chart Room of Curson & Hookers Goolwa Works and Patent Slip, dating back to 1853. It was used for the storage of their plans and charts surrounding their boat building business and is one of just two surviving relics of the ship building industry in Goolwa.
It represents the historical significance of Goolwa as a port and its importance in the development of the river trade.

Goolwa Foundry and Chart Room 
The area in the immediate vicinity has been the site of a patent slip and iron works (1864).

Historic ship building in Goolwa began with the construction of the barge ‘Eureka’ (1853) and ended with the building of the ‘Canberra’ (1913).

As ship building lapsed the iron foundry machinery was sold to the Chaffey Brothers of Renmark (c1888).

The Chart Room is the only visible reminder of a busy ship building facility where 58 paddle steamers and barges were built between 1953 and 1913. [Ref: Story board]
