Moonta School of Mines from 1892 until 1915 when it became Moonta Technical School until 1992, then District High School until 1937. Now in the care of The National Trust of SA. Yorke Peninsula South Australia

            The southern portion of this building was erected as Baptist Church in 1866. It was then purchased in 1892 by the government and converted for use as a School of Mines, the first outside Adelaide.
In 1903, the northern portion was added and the words School of Mines moulded across the front. 
The School of Mines continued as such until 1915, with enlargements in 1896, 1902, and 1904.
The Moonta Technical School operated here from 1915 to 1992, with adult education classes. 
From 1910 to 1937 the institution existed as Moonta District High School.
Since 1993 the building has been the home of the National Trust of SA, Moonta Branch.
The local and Family History Resource Centre is located within the building. 

MOONTA SCHOOL OF MINES
The School is intended for students who desire to increase their knowledge of those arts and sciences which are specially important to miners and others similarly engaged. It will be seen therefore that just those subjects such as mine surveying, steam, mineralogy, chemistry, mechanical drawing, magnetism and electricity, etc, have been selected for study, which are susceptible of immediate practical application in the mines and elsewhere. Not that other subjects may not be added to the curriculum should sufficient number of students be willing to take them up. But in the first place it has been thought desirable to simply meet the absolute needs of the chief industry of the district. Those therefore who are employed in connection with the mines will have the advantage m the first instance: and later on the sphere of operations of the school will be more extended. It will be found that apparatus and materials have been provided so that whenever possible the work will not only be theoretical, but also practical—that is, each student as he advances, will have the opportunity of making the experiments or doing the work for himself: it being admitted that no teaching is complete which does not show the connection between knowing and doing.
