Inkerman North October 23
The anniversary services of the Methodist Church were held on Sunday. The church was crowded for the tea and public meeting and supper on Monday. Mr C H Daniel occupied the chair, and read the financial statement, which showed a credit balance. Addresses were given by the Rev W A Bainger of Port Wakefield, and Mr J T F Johnson, of Balaklava.
The Rev G Hall gave a brief pastor's report. About 30 names had been added to the church roll, and a Christian Endeavour Society with 23 active members had been formed. A new church is urgently needed. Miss Smart presided at the organ, and a number of anthems were given. Mr Fraser furnished a solo and Mr Sawley a recitation.

BOWMANS
METHODIST CHURCH 16th ANNIVERSARY.
Mr DANIELS ONLY RESIDENT PRESENT AT FIRST AND LAST
CEREMONY,
The Jubilee Services in connection with the Methodist Church, held on the 7th, 8th and 9th inst proved to be one of the most important events in the history of this centre.
On Friday the 7th a huge high tea was held in the School Hall, commencing at 4-30 and lasting until 7-30, and was voted by all, a magnificent spread. A cricket match between Bowmans and Erith, and tennis between Nantawarra v Whitwarta and Bowmans combined helped to make an enjoyable afternoon.
In the evening a big re-union took place in the Church where the choir and S S children, under the Leadership of Mr Hilton Daniel delighted the crowded audience with their singing. The Rev Glen Clarke, supt of the circuit, extended a hearty welcome 'Back to Bowmans', which was responded to by Messrs James Smart (Glenelg), John Daniel (Maylands) T Durdin (Kulpara), and Mrs C H Daniel (Balaklava). The Rev Eric Tregilgas (Pt Wakefield), offered congratulations on behalf of neighbouring circuits, and the Rev Mugford, an old Bowmans boy, gave an interesting address, referring to the Pioneers of the district.
Mr C E Daniel, who has held the position of Secretary for about 30 years, gave his Annual Report as follows:—
Fifty years ago the late Rev R C Young, the Bible Christian Minister in charge of the Balaklava Circuit: called a meeting of gentlemen interested in the building of a Church at Inkerman.
Those who met together were the late Messrs Wm Wills, Geo Brooks, John Smart, and Charles Daniel.
These gentlemen formed themselves into a Trust, and it was resolved to build.
The site of the Church was a half mile west of Bowmans, on the main road to Port Wakefield, and the land was given by the late Mr John Smart.
The Foundation Stone was laid conjointly, by the late Mrs John Smart, and Mrs C H Daniel, who is now living in Balaklava.
A Sunday School was formed and opened on December 2nd of the same year, with Mr Alfred Clarke as Superintendent, and the late Mr C E Daniel assistant: and Miss Lillywhite as the first organist.
The original Roll Book is still preserved and the Roll Call of the first Teachers and Scholars took place at the Re-Union on Friday evening last when quite a number of old scholars were present to answer to same.
The old Church did yeoman service for 32 years, where the present imposing structure was erected, and the name changed to that of Bowmans.
The Rev S C Mugford, who was the chief speaker at all services, is an old Bowmans Boy, who later on became Head Teacher at the Public School, and many old Scholars were present to give him a hearty welcome.
All the early records of the old building have long since ceased to exist. They had when I took over the secretaryship 35 years ago. In 1909 the present structure was built at a cost of about £525, including labour, the land was given by Mr W Boord, and was opened practically free of debt, and the name was changed to Bowmans.
The Trustees were Messrs C H Daniel, Jas Lomman, S Wills, W H Manley, E H Daniel, F C Smart, J Williams, A Grigg, A F Manley, T Smart, F Saint, F Smart, W Mugford (Treasurer), and C Daniel (Hon Secretary).
Five of these have passed over to the Great Beyond to their reward, and of the rest, only Mr W H Manley and myself remain in the district.
This year 3 young men have been added to the Trust—P Prime, H Daniel, and A Smart. Two are grandsons of two pioneer trustees.
The Secretary called the roll from the original S S book of 1877. Those answering were Mrs C Daniel (teacher). Mrs G Dyer (nee Fanny Alderman), Mrs T Durdin (nee Lydia Smart), Mrs Mugford (nee Eliza Smart (Messrs J Wills, W Fraser. C J Daniel.
In addition to these we noticed a number of old scholars and Church workers, some of whom were:—Mrs Lomman senr, Mrs Castle (Blanchetown). Mr & Mrs Peter (Gladstone), Mrs A Murdock (Warooka), Mrs Briggs, (Wynarka), Mrs J Murdock Plympton), Mr S Manley (Modbury), Mr & Mrs C Mugford (Murray Bridge), Mr J Wills (Victoria), Mr H Mutter & Mr & Mrs Smith (Gawler), Mesdames C Kuchenmeister & Geue (Balaklava), Mrs Winning (Kilkenny), Mr & Mrs E Saint (Saddleworth). Mr Daniel secretary is the only one left, who has worshipped continually for 50 years.
The Sunday evening service was conducted by the Rev Mugford who addressed a very large congregation.
Hymns were rendered by the children and an augmented choir, under the conductorship of Mr H Daniel.
Miss J Fraser presided at the piano, Miss Simmons of Bowmans, and Mr Price of Adelaide, violins: and Mr Lee, cornet.
Mr Mugford, on behalf of the Trustees, thanked those who had attended and given financial help. He also hoped all present would be there for the next Jubilee. About £50 was taken during the celebrations.
An enjoyable concert happily concluded the secular portion of the reunion. Those assisting were—Miss Sires overture; Miss Rivett song; recitation Master Ken Fraser; Mr and Mrs H Daniel duet; Master Allan Tilbrook songs (2), Miss Duke recitations (2); Mr Blesing song; piano solo Miss Sires; song Mr B Angel; Mr and Mrs H Daniel duet; recitations, Ken. Fraser; and Mrs L Briggs; Mr W Fraser and Misses Baker and Gosling songs; trio Misses Baker, Gosling and Mr Drake,
In arranging the festivities, the financial side was not looked upon as the most important, but the Trust is exceedingly pleased as nett receipts will amount to over £50. The success of the proceedings is due to the ladies who worked so unitedly and cheerily. Large numbers of old residents and friends attended each of the three days celebrations.
