            Lucindale Historical Society Museum

Officially opened on 3 February 1995 by Her Excellency the Honourable Dame Roma Mitchell, Governor of South Australia, the museum had its origins in the late 1980s following the closure of the railway line between Kingston and Naracoorte. Local residents gathered historical items from the district and used the old railway buildings for their storage and display. 

The railway line from Naracoorte to Kingston was built in 1876: Lucindale, in the Hundred of Joyce, was the only town surveyed on that line. 
The hundred and the town were named for the family of Sir Anthony Musgrave who was appointed South Australia’s Governor from 1873 – “Joyce” for the governor’s 3 year old daughter who tragically died in 1874 in an accident, and “Lucinda”, wife of the governor.
