Coolah Shire Hall 1935 is a Community Hall in the main street, designed by Shire Engineer G Jack Cliff. Now a Library and Information Centre. New South Wales Australia

            The Coolah Shire Hall, a significant main street Community Hall: also known as the Regent Theatre. Officially opened by Colonel M F Bruxner, Deputy Premier and Minister for Transport, at a grand ball on Wednesday 31 July 1935 in the present of a large gathering of people.

The opening of the hall coincided with the officially turning on of the town electricity supply from Tucker’s garage. Allan and Mary Doolan of Punchbowl had married the previous night in the local Anglican Church. Allan had worked as an electrician for the supply. When they left the church Tucker Bros turned on the town lights for the first time and as a treat for the happy couple.

The land for the hall was made available by Captain Ralph Johnson, proprietor of the Coolah Hotel: the hall was built by W M Horton of Gloucester for the sum of £2319. The hall was designed and supervised by the Shire Engineer, G Jack Cliff, after which Cliff Lane, Coolah is named. The plans provided for the front of the building and hall offices to be constructed of brick and the main hall to be of fibro cement lined with acoustic board and fibrous plaster. Provision was made for a spacious entrance, cloak rooms and ticket offices. The auditorium of the hall was planned to be 40ft by 76ft with a stage of 21ft by 40ft and supper room of 32ft x 40ft at the rear. Licensed seating was set at 630 persons.

The Regent Theatre (Mudgee) leased the hall for a period of ten years. The rental was sufficient to pay the annual instalments of principal, insurances and upkeep.

The new hall eventually replaced the Coolah Town Hall.

Films, ball and dances are now not held in the hall. The former hall is used as the Coolah library, visitor information and gallery.

The Shire Hall is an Interwar Stripped Classical style building constructed of face brickwork with corrugated steel hipped gable behind a brick parapet. There is a central recessed entrance porch, flanked with four simple Doric style concrete columns. Face brickwork to the front walls and parapet are in red textured brick.
Windows are pivot steel framed with sashes divided into four, cross-barred with texture glass panes.
The porch is above pavement level: timber framed and panel doors lead into the hall. 

The parapet is decorated in cement rendered panels in an Art Deco style wave pattern, with attached wording “Coolah Shire Council 1935” to the central panel.
