Mantis religiosa (Linnaeus, 1758) - praying mantis - Gottesanbeterin

            For a couple of years now me and Martin Siering visited a population of praying mantis in Brandenburg (Germany). This time we invited Sandra Starke to come along. Despite the bad weather we managed to find a couple specimen and get some awesome shots. Since they where often sitting in thick brush I made an exception to my normal appproach and placed on a branch of black cherry. Normally I prefer to photograph crittters in their natural environment. A mantid would not expose itselfe like that under normal circumstances, because it would be highly risky. I quickly made a freehand stack and placed it back in the Scotch broom where I have found it.

Seit ein paar Jahren besuchen Martin Siering und ich eine Mantispopulation in Brandenburg. Diesmal haben wir Sandra Starke eingeladen uns zu begleiten. Trotz des schlechten Wetters haben wir einige Mantis gefunden und haben klasse Bilder geschossen. Da die Gottesanbeterinnen meist in dichtem Gestrüpp saßen, habe ich mal eine Ausnahme gemacht und eine davon auf ein paar Früchte der Späten Traubenkirsche gesetzt. Normalerweise fotografiere ich Insekten und dergleichen lieber in ihrem natürlichen Habitat. Ein Mantis würde sich sonst nicht so frei präsentieren, da die Gefahr besteht gefressen zu werden. Nachdem ich einen schnellen freihändigen Stack gemacht habe, habe ich sie wieder in ihren Besenginster gesetzt.
