Causing quite a ruckus DSC_4372 - a photo on Flickriver

            Elvis (Red-shouldered hawk) stopped by several times yesterday.  Each time he arrived he caused quite a ruckus amongst the songbirds.  Yet each time, he was shown the door, so to speak, by Jay and Jane (Blue Jays).  

Normally when an unwelcomed guest arrives in the yard, Dunbar (Northern Mockingbird) flies in and acts as the bouncer.  However, yesterday Jay and Jane were on high alert and wanted nothing to do with Elvis or any shenanigans he may be up to.  Dubar simply sat idly by and watched the scene unfold, as did I. 

Elvis would fly in thinking he could perch a while and look for a snack.  But the alarms would sound from the tufties, wrens, cardinals, catbirds, and bluebirds.  As soon as the commotion would begin, Jay and Jane simply swooped in dive-bombing Elvis immediately.

I'm pretty sure he took a blow or two before departing. Not only did those two very effective bouncers show Elvis the door, but they also escorted him completely out of sight. 

It is clear that the songbirds do not share my confidence in Elvis.  I am kind of, sort of confident that he will stick to the allotted menu of frogs, snakes, and lizards.  However, a fledgling or an egg might be a little too tempting to pass up.  Therefore, I must agree with the others and believe it is best for Elvis to hang out elsewhere during this time of year.
