That Beautiful Bridge - a photo on Flickriver

            DMU 158826 has just crossed Barmouth Bridge (Bont Y Bermo in Welsh).

A mostly wooden structure that crosses the Mawddach estuary, it's half a mile long and stretches from close to Morfa Mawddach station up to Barmouth itself. The alternative route by road is a 13 mile journey. 

The metal spans include a swing bridge, but this hasn't been used since 1986 and is unlikely to be restored to use as only small boats enter the estuary these days.

The strong currents under the bridge are obvious at high tide.
