Stranger 196 of 200 - Guanru and Mei

I finished my photographing of Mellen inside Starbucks, finished supping my coffee and went outside. I still had an hour or so before meeting some friends for lunch so I thought I would continue people watching, but now on a bench outside of Starbucks.

Sitting on the park bench I was approached by a young lady wanting to take my picture. Meet Guanru. I agreed and we chatted a little after she had taken the photo and the selfie with me. Guanru was fascinated that we were speaking in Mandarin and she asked what work I did, assuming it would be the reason for my learning Mandarin. Nope, nothing so straightforward I told her.

The questions I asked were too hard for Guanru to answer, she said she would need to think about them a while. So I took the opportunity to take Guanru’s photos and included her friend Mei. Another colleague appeared ad I took a photo of the three of them together.

Guanru wanted to add me to We Chat and so we scanned our codes and are now following each other. Before I left to go back to my hotel she has sent me the photos she had taken. I promised I would send mine to her soon.

My anticipated challenge in getting strangers in China was not materialising; but I would need to improve my explanation of the project.
