Camargue horses in France, Rhone Delta by the Mediterranean

We decided to take the long way from Arles to Marseille through the delta region of the Rhone, called the Camargue in France. This is the largest delta region in Western Europe and has hundreds of different species of birds, as well as these native white horses (not all of them are white as we found above). We saw these horses out in a remote area and I stopped by a side road that lead into the delta swamps. I walked down the road and used my horse whispering techniques to call the horses and get them to come to me. As you can see, they came right up to the fence and proved that an ancient native breed of horses understands American horse whispering techniques. We were heading into a remote area of the delta and would have to catch a ferry to cross the Rhone and get to Martigue, so I didn't have time to pursue getting closer. The breed is only about 14 to 15 hands high and are about what would be called "ponies" in Texas, but they are extremely hardy and live on salt marshes. They are used for herding the Camargue bulls, also native to the Camargue area. This area of France is about the closest you can get to Texas with its French cowboys called gardians who ride and work with the horses and Camargue cattle.
