The Longest Pier. Flagger Beach, Florida

            The Flagler Beach Fishing Pier was built in 1928 and was 800 feet long. It lost 432 of those feet in a 1984 nor’easter.

- On Oct. 7, Hurricane Matthew tore an estimated 160 feet from the end of the pier. The structure has been closed to the public since then.

- City officials on Feb. 9 awarded a contract for emergency repairs to Construct Co. Inc. of Orlando, which submitted the low bid of $917,917.

- The Federal Emergency Management Agency will pay 75 percent of the cost, the state will fund 12.5 percent and the city will pay 12.5 percent, which city officials believe will be covered by insurance.

- Estimated cost for permanent repairs is between $10 million and $15 million. That project would take from 18 months to two years to complete.
