Torridonian Sandstone stacks eroded and weathered on the summit ridge of Stac Pollaidh, with Loch Lurgainn and main road over 2,000 feet below.

            Commentary.

What a marvellous and surreal collection of 
stacks, pillars, columns and rock-towers
make up the summit ridge of Stac Pollaidh.
Apparently, during the Ice-Age this peak
stood above the ice-sheets as a “nunatak.”
Despite this, constant freeze-thaw conditions
in the sandstone bed-joints would have prised rocks apart, over time.
Subsequent weathering and erosion left this kind of scene.
Combined with views of lochs, lochans, low, rocky hills and wooded river valleys from 600 metres, 2,000 feet,
this relatively easy climb is well rewarded.
