Towering above Leanachan Forest is the Nevis Range, and beyond, the severe northern slopes of the "Ben," itself. Viewed from Bunarkaig Bay at sunset, on Loch Lochy, Inverness-shire, Scotland.

Like a dormant humpback whale risen from the oceans.
It stands.
Dominant.
Proud.
Over-arching.
Bearing the battle scars of winter, the northern corries
still carry snow on 02nd. June.
Here is a telephoto view of the Nevis Range
from a ruffled bay on the northern shore of Loch Lochy, near Bunarkaig.
Sunset after 21:00, radiates south-east down Loch Eil,
highlighting the northern slopes but leaving  Leanachan Forest in a dark-green gloom.
Aloof and pre-eminent, Nevis rules the peaks, now,
and for a long time to come.
